Basalt, Colorado is located between the Sopris and Basalt mountains where skiing, hiking, and mountain biking are at their best. Charming and welcoming, this small Colorado Rockies town attracts visitors from all around the globe, affording them the chance to explore the thousands of acres of alpine wilderness.

Attention anglers! This fishing Mecca sits between the Frying Pan and the Roaring Fork rivers, both of which originate in the Sawatch Range, east of Aspen. The Roaring Fork River slows down as it reaches Basalt, helping to make the area one of the most prolific for fishing. Here you can drift downstream to Carbondale, tranquilly trolling for fish and taking in the magnificent scenery. From the west of Aspen to Basalt, serious whitewater rafters and kayakers can get their kicks with a wild ride on the rushing waters. Visitors can move on to Ruedi Reservoir where windsurfers, sailors, and skiers find some of the best conditions for their sport. Take a long hike through the White River National Forest and don’t forget to bring your camera as you will want to take pix of some of the most beautiful wilderness sights in the Colorado Rockies.

The town of Basalt is rich with wonderful shopping, dining, and accommodations. With over twenty restaurants that suit every palate and numerous boutiques, you can have a ball walking around and taking in the local sights.
