With snowfall averaging more than 360 inches over the past five years, Steamboat Springs boasts the best ski conditions in Colorado. In winter, Steamboat becomes a veritable winter paradise, with its wide expanses ready to be covered by snowshoe, snowmobile, or cross-country skis. Skiers and snowboarders come alive to the trails in Steamboat’s ski area, known for its glades, cruisers, steeps, and tree skiing. The pipe and terrain parks in Steamboat Springs are also legendary, earning top rankings from some of the best known snowboarding publications.

Skiing and Snowboarding
Steamboat Ski Area is comprised of six peaks and 142 trails. Known as one of North America’s largest ski mountains, the area boasts an award-winning terrain park and half pipe. Howelsen Hill is known for its 5 ski jumps, a top-of-the-line Nordic touring center, a terrain park, and an enclosed ice arena. In addition, Howelsen Hill is the home of the Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club where numerous Olympian competitors and national champions have been formed.

Snowmobiling
With close to 150 miles of trails in the nearby Routt National Forest, Steamboat Springs is known as a snowmobiler’s paradise. Take the legendary 50 mile Continental Divide trail where you can take in some of the most breathtaking sights in North America. Local rental companies and outfitters are ready to supply the snowmobiler with all the necessities.

Dog Sled Tours
For an unusual adventure, take a dog sled tour with Alaskan Huskies whisking you across the Steamboat Springs frontier. Enjoy a guided ride with experienced dog mushers as you snuggle under warm blankets, or grab the reins yourself!

Ice Skating
Figure skating and ice hockey are some of the activities you can enjoy at Steamboat’s Olympic-size Howelsen Ice Arena. Rent your skates and enjoy a day at the rink.

Snowshoeing
One of the best ways to sightsee in the wintertime, Steamboat offers miles of trails for the snowshoeing aficionado.

Sleigh Rides
What could be more romantic than a sleigh ride under the moon on your way to a dinner by fireside in a lantern-lit Indian tepee? Snuggle down and enjoy old-fashioned transportation as you breathe in the crisp air with your loved ones.

Wintertime fly fishing is one of the best ways to enjoy the outdoors in Steamboat Springs. Contact a local guide who will show you the best spots to find fish and enjoy the magnificent views of the surrounding mountains and terrain.
